Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“Virtual characters are widely used in various software applic ations, such as games, metaverses, socialmedia, messengers, video communication tools, and online training tools. Some of these applications allowusers to int eract with virtual characters. However, existing models of virtual characters ar e typicallydeveloped for specific applications and do not allow integration wit h other applications and environments.Moreover, existing virtual character mode ls are typically based on descriptions of specific rules and logic.This approac h results in virtual character models that lack the ability to adapt their behav ior with respectto users in response to events occurring during the interaction between the users and virtual characters in avirtual environment. Parameters o f conventional virtual character models typically remain unchanged forthe whole time of interaction between the users and the virtual characters, thereby makin g it difficult toadapt the behavior of virtual characters to changes happening in the virtual environment. Accordingly, toolsare needed that would allow users to modify the behavior of virtual characters based on events occurringduring t he interactions between the users and the virtual characters in the virtual envi ronment.”
