The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied bythe inventors: “Electrochemical sensors are used in a variety o f industrial and health care applications forthe analysis of gases and liquids, for example for CO detection, water quality analysis and the chemicalcompositi on of motor oil. An example use of electrochemical sensor is in continuous gluco se monitoring(CGM) systems for people with diabetes. A CGM patch including an e lectrochemical sensor provides asignal corresponding to the level of glucose in the interstitial fluid. A processor connected to the CGMpatch processes the se nsor signal and gives a measure of the glucose level in the interstitial fluid. Thelifetime of CGM patches is limited to 7 days up to 14 days, after which the CGM patch needs to be replacedby the patch user. The wear duration is a predefi ned time set by the manufacturers, based on the limitedlifetime of the electroc hemical sensor.”
