Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: “Aspart of determining whether to grant a user access to cont ent (e.g., as part of determining whether toprovide a caller access to a teleph one system that provides banking information), a user of the user devicemay be prompted with one or more authentication questions. Such questions may relate to , for example,a password of the user, a personal identification number (PIN) of the user, or the like. Those questionsmay additionally and/or alternatively be generated based on personal information of the user. For example, when setting up an account, a user may provide a variety of answers to predetermined question s (e.g.,“Where was your father born?,” “Who was your best friend in high school ?”), and those questions may bepresented to the user as part of an authenticati on process. As another example, a commercially-availabledatabase of personal in formation may be queried to determine personal information for a user (e.g., the irbirthdate, birth location, etc.), and that information may be used to generat e an authentication question(e.g., “Where were you born, and in what year?”). A potential downside of these types of authentication questions is that the corre ct answers may be obtainable and/or guessable for someone who has informationab out a particular user.
