Abstract
Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“While automation has contributed to lower costs and higher up times in supply chains, the rigidity andlack of awareness of current automation systems also presents numerous problems. In some cases, thecentralized nature of the logic architecture controlling the robot fleets and/or transportation sys temscarrying said robots lacks scalability and leads to increased latency. For instance, current automationhardware relies on a set of instructions received f rom a central processing system for transporting goods.However, technological c hallenges arise when an autonomous operation is required from the automationsys tem in conjunction with additional tasks, such as when an autonomous response to inventory demands isneeded along with the transportation of goods. The limited capability of current robots and transportationsystems to adapt logistically w ithin the same or a different geographic site, particularly in response toinven tory demands, has prevented automation systems from expanding beyond their curre ntly limited.
