The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by the inventors: “A robot is generally defined as a reprogrammabl e and multifunctional manipulator designed to move material, parts, tools, and/o r specialized devices (e.g., via variable programmed motions) for performing tas ks. Robots may include manipulators that are physically anchored (e.g., industri al robotic arms), mobile devices that move throughout an environment (e.g., usin g legs, wheels, or traction-based mechanisms), or some combination of one or mor e manipulators and one or more mobile devices. Robots are currently used in a va riety of industries, including, for example, manufacturing, warehouse logistics, transportation, hazardous environments, exploration, and healthcare.”
