By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Robotics & Machine Learning Daily News Daily News – According to news reporting originatin g from Washington, D.C., by NewsRx journalists, a patent application by the inve ntor RODERS, Jurgen (Soltau, DE), filed on November 25, 2021, was made available online on September 26, 2024. No assignee for this patent application has been made. Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: “Handling assemblies are used for automating the loading of ma chine tools with workpieces and for tool replacement. For example, this may be p erformed by means of 6-axis robots, which, however, are subject to high maintena nce costs in addition to high investment costs. Alternatively, it is known to us e more simple handling assemblies instead of 6-axis robots, which travel longitu dinally on a rail in front of the machine tool to feed workpieces into the machi ne tool for machining and to remove them therefrom. These handling assemblies ar e usually designed such that a carriage is movable on a bottom axis along the ma chine tool. A rotatable tower is mounted on the carriage, on which tower a horiz ontally extendable telescopic arm can be moved upwards and downwards. In this wa y, any position can be approached in all directions using four controlled axes. Even though this design basically has proven to be effective, it requires relati vely large amount of space in front of the machine tool. Another disadvantage is that all the components of the handling assembly have to be individually instal led on site at a customer’s premises. This results in relatively long assembly t imes.”
