Abstract

News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors: “Biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies often rely on f ast, high-throughput screening processes to drive research forward. In particula r, arrays of chromatographic samples are often used for protein separation/purif ication, process development, method optimization and parameter screening as wel l as sample preparation prior to subsequent analysis. A common format for these chromatographic samples is miniaturized chromatography columns, sometimes referr ed to as RoboColumns or minicolumns. These miniaturized columns are commercially available prepacked with resin or other chromatography medium that is suitable for separation/purification of a particular target protein. The miniaturized col umns can be individually arranged on a commonly used 96-well microplate accordin g to application requirements. In many applications, a robotic liquid handling w orkstation is utilized for parallel chromatographic separations, such as a Freed om Evo™ system available from Tecan Group headquartered in Mannedorf, Switzerlan d.
