By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Robotics & Machine Learning Daily News Daily News – Investigators discuss new findings in robotics. According to news reporting out of Macau, People’s Republic of China, by NewsRx editors, research stated, “AI agents, such as service robots, could en compass gender cues.” Funders for this research include Universidade De Macau. The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from University of Macau: “However, little is known regarding whether and how customers apply gender stere otyping to service failures in gendered service tasks performed by robots. Drawi ng on the gender stereotype theory, we investigate the joint effects of robot ge nder (feminine vs. masculine) and task type (female-dominated vs. male-dominated ) on customer dissatisfaction following service failures. Study 1 reveals that f eminine service robots are perceived as more communal but equally agentic as the ir masculine counterparts. Study 2 demonstrates that feminine (vs. masculine) se rvice robots generate lower customer dissatisfaction when failing a femaledomin ated task. However, this discrepancy diminishes when failures occur in a male-do minated task.”
