Abstract
The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by the inventors: “Having the ability to accurately estimate the p ose of a person based on a two-dimensional (2D) image of the person may be impor tant for a variety of applications, including, e.g., medical applications in whi ch patient positioning and/or surgical navigation may be automated based on a pa tient’s pose.Pose estimation based a 2D images may be challenging due to lack o f depth information and the task may become more complicated when multiple peopl e may be present in the image and blocking each other (at least partially). In t hose situations, conventional pose estimation techniques may not be able to dist inguish the multiple people or recover an obstructed joint, rendering the techni ques ineffective for determining the pose and/or other physical characteristics of the people based on the image.”
