Abstract

The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by the inventors: “In the field of laboratory automation, it is co mmon to integrate individual automated instruments in order to fully automate a workflow, especially in the life science and pharmaceutical industries. Generall y, each automated instrument performs a specialized function within that work fl ow. Integration is achieved by automating the transport of materials between the instruments. Integrated laboratory systems are often applicable for high throug hput workflows, which benefit from processing materials in high volume. Automati on of such processes can often improve the efficiency of the process, ensure con sistency, and reduce human errors.
