Abstract

Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: “All biological processes operate in narrow thermal ranges; ev en small variations in temperature may lead to performance degradation and/or ce llular/systemic failure. Research shows that performance degradation (fatigue, m uscular failure) is most likely attributed to the suppression the nervous system due to core temperature, rather than the accumulation of lactic acid, poor oxyg en supply, or limited availability of glycogen. As core temperature rises, the n ervous system downregulates physiological systems (e.g. neuromuscular activation ). There is a need for technology to increase human performance potential and he at stress resilience by enhancing physiological thermoregulation.”
