News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors: "In offshore drilling operations, the drilling operations m ay be performed using a drilling riser. The drilling riser may extend between th e subsea wellhead assembly at the seafloor and the drilling vessel. The drilling riser may be made up of a number of individual riser joints. These riser joints may be connected to each other using connecting elements such as riser bolts. F urther, the drilling riser also has a number of auxiliary conduits that extend a round the main central pipe. These auxiliary conduits supply hydraulic fluid pre ssure to the subsea blowout preventer and lower marine riser package.
