New research on Artificial Intelligenc e is the subject of a report. According to news reporting originating in Msida, Malta, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, "Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly implemented in radiology, especially in image reporting. P atients' perceptions about AI integration in medical imaging is a relatively une xplored area that has received limited investigation in the literature." The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from the University of Mal ta, "This study aimed to determine current knowledge and perceptions of patients in Malta towards AI application in medical imaging. A cross-sectional study usi ng a self-designed paper-based questionnaire, partly adapted with permission fro m two previous studies, was distributed in English or Maltese language amongst e ligible outpatients attending medical imaging examinations across public hospita ls in Malta and Gozo in March 2023. 280 questionnaires were analysed, resulting in a 5.83 % confidence interval. 42.1 % of patients indicated basic AI knowledge, while 36.4 % reported minimal to no knowledge. Responses indicated favourable opinions towards the collaborative int egration of humans and AI to improve healthcare. However, participants expressed preference for doctors to retain final-decision making when AI is used. For som e statements, a statistically significant association was observed between patie nts' perception of AIbased technology and their gender, age, and educational ba ckground. Essentially, 92.1 % expressed the importance of being in formed whenever AI is to be utilised in their care. As key stakeholders, patient s should be actively involved when AI technology is used. Informing patients abo ut the use of AI in medical imaging is important to cultivate trust, address eth ical concerns, and help ensure that AI integration in healthcare systems aligns with patients' values and needs. This study highlights the need to enhance AI li teracy amongst patients, possibly though awareness campaigns or educational prog rammes."
