Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“Automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRSs) offer the pot ential to improve the efficiency of largeretail and warehousing operations. How ever, each storage position within an ASRS must be reachable, orthe ASRS itself may introduce inefficiencies by having wasted or under-utilized storage volume. This drivesthe ASRS to have a large number of automated picking systems (APSs) , such as robotic arms.
