Abstract

Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“Autonomous vehicles, for instance, vehicles that do not requi re a human driver, can be used to aidin the transport of passengers or items fr om one location to another. Such vehicles may operate in afully autonomous mode where passengers may provide some initial input, such as a pickup or destinatio nlocation, and the vehicle maneuvers itself to that location. Autonomous vehicl es are equipped with varioustypes of sensors in order to detect and respond to objects in the surroundings. For example, autonomousvehicles may include sonar, radar, camera, LIDAR, and other devices that scan and record data from thevehi cle’s surroundings.
