Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: “Inmodern painting plants for the painting of motor vehicle b ody components, rotary atomizers are usuallyused for paint application, which e mit a spray jet of the paint to be applied. During a color changeand during int erruptions of operation, for example during the night or during the weekend, the se rotaryatomizers are rinsed inside and cleaned outside to avoid paint deposit s and contamination by residualpaint. The internal channels of the rotary atomi zer are usually rinsed with a rinsing agent to remove thepaint remaining in the rotary atomizer. In the past, these rinsing processes of the rotary atomizers w entinto the so-called wet scrubbing under the painting booth. However, since th e introduction of dry rinsing,this is no longer possible, so that separate coll ecting devices (e.g. hoppers) are used for this purpose.In some cases, devices that are used for external cleaning of the atomizer and are described in EP 1 367 302 A2, for example, are used to collect the media of the rinsing processes. F or a cleaning or rinsingprocess, the rotary atomizer to be cleaned is introduce d into the cleaning device by a painting robot andthen cleaned in the cleaning device.
