Abstract

No assignee for this patent application has been made.Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) uses laser light to measu re distances by targeting an object or asurface with a laser and measuring the time for the reflected light to return to a receiver. LiDAR scanningcan be perf ormed to generate extremely accurate, detailed three-dimensional (3D) measuremen ts ofan environment including various features, such as the ground, vegetation, buildings, and other objects.LiDAR scanning produces a 3D point cloud of the s canned environment. The speed and accuracy ofLiDAR made it feasible to map larg e areas with the kind of detail that before had only been possible withtime-con suming and expensive ground survey crews.
