Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: “Anonline system allows users to perform transactions associa ted with items. The items may represent physicalentities stored in a physical l ocation. Occasionally an item requested by a user may not be available at aphys ical location. The requested item may be substituted with a replacement item, fo r example, a similaritem available at the physical location. Depending on the u ser requirements and the type of replacementitem selected, the replacement item may or may not be a suitable replacement. Substituting an item witha replaceme nt item that is not suitable provides a poor user experience for the user reques ting the itemand may result in delays in completing the transaction, for exampl e, if the user refuses the replacementitem.”
