When a bendable medicalinstrument of the medical apparatus in P TL 1 is to be caused to pass through a relatively wide lumen of apatient, a use r manually inserts the bendable medical instrument into the lumen of the patient while thebendable medical instrument is held by the hand of the user. Next, wh en the bendable medical instrumentreaches a first portion, the user attaches th e bendable medical instrument to the insertion unit and cancontinue an insertio n step by switching to robot control.
