Abstract

The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion suppliedby the inventors: “Air quality is important for the health of a po pulation. Countries worldwide spendsignificant resources on monitoring air qual ity and controlling air pollution. One of the major problemsis that instruments that can accurately monitor air quality are expensive and typically require exp ertiseto operate properly. Currently, air quality monitoring is mainly performe d by government agencies anddedicated organizations using specialized instrumen tation. As a result, general air quality data often doesnot provide the fidelit y necessary to pinpoint issues at a scale smaller than a regional level. Real-ti me air quality monitoring at a finer scale may be cost-prohibitive because air q uality monitoring instruments canbe expensive.
