News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“Users are increasingly performing tasks using remote compu ting resources, often referred to as part of“the cloud.” This has many advantag es, as users do not have to purchase and maintain dedicated hardwareand softwar e, and instead can pay for only those resources that are needed at any given tim e, where thoseresources typically will be managed by a resource provider. Users can perform tasks such as storing datato various types of resources offered by a resource provider. In many instances, customer data is accessiblethrough mec hanisms such as roles or credentials. A party obtaining the credentials or assum ing sucha role, however, can gain access to the customer data. It is difficult to determine whether such usage isauthorized, as well as to take appropriate ac tion before any customer data is exfiltrated.”
