Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“Automatic speech recognition (ASR) combined with language pro cessing techniques may enable a computingdevice to retrieve and process command s from a user based on the user’s spoken commands. Insome systems, speech recog nition and/or voice-controlled devices activate upon detection of a spoken“wake word.” Natural language processing is used to translate the spoken requests into semantic interpretationsof the spoken command. A speech processing application (e.g., a “skill”) is selected for processingthe spoken request. Executable ins tructions are generated based on the semantic interpretation of thespoken comma nd. The executable instructions are executed by the skill and a corresponding ta sk is performed.Such speech processing and voice control may be used by persona l computers, hand-held devices,telephone computer systems, and a wide variety o f other computing devices to improve human-computerinteractions and to control various systems.”
