Abstract

The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by theinventors: “Meteorological visibility and meteorological op tical ranging (MOR) are important operationaland safety parameters in maritime operations, aviation operations, and various other transit operations.For examp le, low visibility can create unsafe conditions that increase transit times, slo w operations, andlead to accidents with significant monetary and environmental costs, including the loss of life. Reliablevisibility measurements can reduce t he hazards associated with conducting transit operations in theseconditions.
