News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“There are different types of pneumatic actuators. Pneumati c cylinders in particular are used in a varietyof applications. It is also know n to use pneumatic actuators for closed-loop force control, for example, inauto mated, robot-assisted surface machining or, more generally, in applications wher e a robot is supposedto contact a surface “gently” (without impact) with a tool , for example. An example of a pneumatichandling device for use in industrial r obots is described in U.S. Pat. No. 10,906,177. Known devices andsystems contai n, inter alia, bellows cylinders, pneumatic muscles or double-acting pneumatic c ylinders,which makes such devices complex and expensive to manufacture. A requi rement for such a handlingdevice for robot-assisted surface machining is the ab ility to absorb bending moments.
