Enormous amounts ofcomputational resources are re quired to train and use modern artificial intelligence such as LLM’s. However,t he capacity of computing hardware is not keeping up with the increased demand. T he monetary andenergy costs required to train and operate ever more powerful sy stems to serve an increasing number ofusers could be a barrier to further devel opment and adoption of artificial intelligence. Additionally, theprojected futu re demand for computing resources will have significant energy and environmental costsunless more efficient computing systems are developed.
