No assignee for this patent application has been made.News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“Electric vehicles (EVs) may use rechargeable batteries, su ch as lithium-ion batteries or other types ofbatteries, as a power source. Such rechargeable batteries may have a limited lifespan. For example, asa battery i s repeatedly charged and discharged, the state of health (SOH) of the battery ma y degradeover time. The SOH may be representative of the current condition of t he battery in comparison to theideal condition of the battery. Examples of SOH parameters that are indicative of a battery’s conditionmay include battery capa city, internal resistance/impedance/conductance, supplied voltage or amperage,t endency to self-discharge, and ability to accept a charge. Factors that may cont ribute to battery SOHdegradation may include operator driving patterns, environ mental conditions under which the vehicle isoperated and stored, infrastructure and terrain over which the vehicle is operated, vehicle properties (e.g.,vehic le weight, aerodynamics), number of charge/discharge cycles, extent to which the battery is fullycharged and/or fully discharged at each cycle, and the age of the battery. Although battery SOH is an important consideration, accurately pred icting the SOH and the effects that certain activities and eventswill have on t he SOH can be challenging.”
