The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied bythe inventors: “A robot system may comprise one or several indu strial robots operating in an environment.In some robot systems, the environmen t is enclosed by a physical fence, for example to protect humansfrom the indust rial robot.“As an alternative to a physical fence, some robot systems employ virtual safety borders to providea safety configuration. Each virtual safety border is typica lly associated with a condition, for examplethat the industrial robot must not pass the virtual safety border. In this case, the robot system may alsocomprise a monitoring system supervising positions and movements of the industrial robot with respect tothe virtual safety borders. If the safety configuration is viol ated by the industrial robot, the monitoringsystem can automatically stop the i ndustrial robot to avoid an accident.
