Abstract
Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“A sump pump is a type of pump used to remove water that has a ccumulated in a lower level (e.g., abasement, a ground floor level, a sub-groun d floor level, etc.) of a property (e.g., a home, an office,or any other buildi ng or structure). The sump pump sends the water into pipes that lead away from the property so that potential lower-level flooding may be avoided. As such, fail ures in the sump pumpcan have disastrous consequences including water damages a nd insurance losses. However, sump pumpfailures often occur without prior warni ng or may not be discovered until significant damage has alreadybeen done. Unfo rtunately, many currently available sump pump systems are not designed or equipp ed toautomatically detect impending sump pump failures, or remedy such failures even if they are detected.”
