For example, paint suppliers must provide thousands of coatings to cover therange o f global OEM manufacturers’ coatings for all current and recent model vehicles. Providing thislarge number of different coatings as factory package products ad ds complexity to paint manufacture andincreases inventory costs. Consequently, paint suppliers provide a mixing machine system including typically50 to 100 co mponents (e.g., single pigment tints, binders, solvents, additives) with coating formulas forthe components that match the range of coatings of vehicles. The m ixing machine may reside at a repairfacility (i.e., body shop) or a paint distr ibutor and allows a user to obtain the coating having the desiredcolor and appe arance by dispensing the components in amounts corresponding to the coating form ula.The coating formulas are typically maintained in a database and are distrib uted to customers via computersoftware by download or direct connection to inte rnet databases. Each of the coating formulas typically relate to one or more alt ernate coating formulas to account for variations in coatings due to variations invehicle production.
