A new instrument for the determination of gaseous and particulate run, zinc, calcium and other metals - independently and directly in the fumes emitted from steelmaking processes - is commercially available from EDAX, Inc. Chime metals analysis aids in optimising important process steps, minimising metal losses to the waste-gas cleaning system and to the environment. The EDAX waste fume analyser (WFA) is a real-time metals monitor for measuring airborne particles and fumes from all pyrometallurgical processes. Based on the well-accepted method of X-ray fluorescence, the instrument can detect numerous metals simultaneously in the fume and report their concentration on a mass-per-unit-time basis in real-time to a control-room computer
