The deal should ensure that Toronto-listed Skeena Resources' planned Eskay Creek gold-silver project, located in Tahltan Territory, will be the first mining project to have permits authorized by an Indigenous government. The agreement is a formal recognition of the Tahltan Nation's right to manage resource development decisions within their Territory and honours Tahltan's jurisdiction in land-management decisions in Tahltan Territory, the provincial government said.
