The aim of the paper is to make a summary of INRiM's most recent results on the alpha -beta solid-to-solid transition (s.s.t.), by reporting the basic details of the findings concerning what looks like a new, and apparently distinct, transition just below the "regular " alpha -beta one. Data are also reported for the temperature changes of the same transitions when measuring certified mixtures of argon in oxygen up to an argon amount concentration x(Ar) = 10(-3). The existence of a possible split into two alpha -beta transitions was theoretically predicted by Borovik-Romanov et al. and Kanda et al..
