As part of its federal budget, the Canadian government announced its intentions to spend $3.8 billion over eight years on boosting the country's sustainable production of critical minerals. The effort comes in the hopes of positioning Canada as a global leader within the electric vehicle supply chain. Among a number of measures and investments, Budget 2022 allocates $1.5 billion to invest in new critical minerals projects and dedicates another $1.5 billion to new infrastructure investments for projects in critical regions like the Ring of Fire. It also grants $144 million to critical minerals research and development to support the responsible extraction and processing of critical minerals.
