Organocatalytic electrophilic amination of benzoyl butyrolactones with azodicarboxylates was demonstrated to highly efficiently prepare quaternary carbon stereocenter-bearing alpha-amino-gamma-butyrolactones, key framework in numerous bioactive compounds.
