The genus Chassalia is a shrub or small tree that belongs to the family Rubiaceae. It includes more than 110 species distributed in tropical Africa,Madagascar, and tropical Asia.Chassalia chartacea Craib is locally known as'beras-beras,'which can be found in Thailand and Malaysia. It is traditionally used to treat cough and fever [1].Some species from the genus Chassalia have proved to be a source of cyclotides and macrocyclic and cysteine knotted peptides [2].Within the Rubiaceae, the Chassalia is among the earliest genera discovered to produce cyclotides [3,4].The genus Chassalia was also reported for its antihepatotoxic [5],antihypertensive [6],antibacterial [7],acaricidal [8],antimicrobial,insecticidal,and cytotoxic activities [9].The literature search did not reveal any report on the essential oil composition of the genus Chassalia.
