A seismic event looms for Anglo American: its first production at the giant Quellaveco copper mine in Peru expected in June. When that happens, the ghosts of Anglo's yesteryear can be laid to rest -in particular, the pain of having to write off billions after it acguired Brazilian iron ore producer Minas Rio at the top of the last cycle. But there are bigger things here. First-production at Quellaveco will be an important moment for the entire global mining industry, not just Anglo, and for a host of reasons.
