A communication note produced at November 2013 by the Oil Recycling Association (OKA), the lead UK trade association whose members manage most waste oil arising Historically in the UK, much of the used or discarded mineral oil was recovered and made into a useful waste derived hydrocarbon-type fuel called recovered fuel oil (RFO). It maintains a legal waste status and has to be restric-tively managed as hazardous waste. When combusted, it has to be subject to the Waste Incineration Directive or be exempt from it. Consequently, there are today few applications for such uses of RFO.
