Magnetostrictive and viscoelastic characteristics of polyurethane-based magnetorheological elastomer

We fabricated magnetorheological (MR) elastomers using polyurethane and carbonyl iron based MR suspensions. Using dipolar approximation and linear elasticity theory for small deformations, we determined their components of deformations and tensions, showing that their elasticity state depends not only on magnetic field intensity but also on volume fraction. MR characteristics of elastomers' dynamic properties and creep-recovery values were also measured using a rotational rheometer equipped with a magnetic field supplier. Experimental results from both plane capacitors and viscoelastic tests showed similarities between static and dynamic elasticity states regarding their dependence on magnetic field intensity and volume fraction of magnetizable phase.
