Selenium, mercury and arsenic are almost everywhere in environment, all of those elements exist with various forms and their toxicity are depends on its concentration and presented forms. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately monitor the selenium, mercury and arsenic in environment. Photochemical vapor generation (PVG) is a promising gaseous sample introduction method for analytical atomic spectrometry, thanks to its advantages, including high sampling efficiency, reduced interferences and minimized wastes. PVG-analytical atomic spectrometry is considered as a powerful analytical technique for selenium, mercury and arsenic determination. In this review, the applications of PVG-analytical atomic spectrometry combined with various chromatographic separation techniques and non-chromatographic analysis methods for selenium, mercury and arsenic speciation analysis were summarized.
