Codonopsis is a dicotyledonous genus of perennial plants in the family Campanulaceae,including 42 species that are mainly distributed in Central,East,and South Asia,and with approximately 40 species can be found in China(1).The roots of Codonopsis pilosula(Franch.)Nannf,known as"Dang shen"in Chinese,is one of the most famous traditional Chinese medicines,which has been used for the treatment of body weakness,poor appetite,thirst,indigestion,chronic diarrhea,archoptoma,chronic anemia,and leukemia(2).It also has multiple biological activities,such as enhancing immunity and improving learning and memory(3).Furthermore,C.pilosula IS regarded as a kind of healthy food because it exhibits a range of uses,i.e.,as fat substitutes in low-calorie foods,and it also has disease-modifying effects,for instance,treating gastric uker(4).
