Biomarkers and spore-pollens were analyzed fortwenty-six oil shales from the Zuunbayan Group, LowerCretaceous lacustrine sedimentary sequences in eastern Mongolia. The distributions of n-alkane, steranes, hopanes, gammaceraneand grammacer-2-ene indicate diversity in the contributions of anautotrophic prokaryote such as a cyanobacterium , nonmarinealgae, terrestrial higher plants, heterotrophic bacteria andbacterivous ciliates. The presence of thermally unstablecompounds and low concentrations of diagentically-generatedcompounds indicated that the samples are in an immature stagebelow the oil generation window.
