? 2021 Phytochemical Society of EuropeFive new germacrane sesquiterpene lactones, petrophins A–E (1–5), were isolated from the whole herbs of Salvia petrophila. The structures were established using spectroscopic analysis (1D and 2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS) and compatible with values in the literature. These sesquiterpenes are unusual with an endocyclic double bond in the γ-lactone ring. All the isolated compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on the LPS-induced nitric oxide production using murine macro-phage RAW264.7 cells.
