Dendrobium herbaceum Lindl. is reported for the first time in North East India from Mizoram.DURING THE course of our study on the genus Dendrobium Sw. (Orchidaceae) of North East India, we came across a specimen collected by G. K. Deka bearing collection number 41013, dt. 21. 2. 1953 (ASSAM) from Mizoram. After careful examination, it was identified as D. herbaceum Lindl. The species was earlier reported from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Bombay, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mysore, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal (Manilal and Sathish Kumar, 2004; Misra, 2004). Therefore, the present study suggests a new distributional record for the species (Dendrobium herbaceum) from Mizoram in North East India. This paper provides an up-to-date nomenclature, diagnostic description and illustration for easy identification and location of this species elsewhere in the country.
