The Directive on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators (2006/66/EC) prescribed rules regarding the collection, treatment and recovery of waste batteries and waste accumulators. The Directive was transposed into UK law via the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, a producer responsibility regime, and via the Batteries and Accumulators (Placing on the Market) Regulations 2008.
