Greenhouse gases are an essential component in Earth's energy budget, and increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere are responsible for the primary forcing of increasing global temperature. Quantification of greenhouse gas emissions is a rapidly evolving application of remote sensing, spanning a wide range in remote sensing technologies, wavelengths, platforms, and spatial resolutions. This special issue provides 23 new papers covering the breadth of remote sensing of greenhouse gas emissions. Our summary provides a brief description of each of the papers in the special issue.
