Geopora asiatica is described from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. This species can be separated from its closest relative, G. pinyonensis by its larger (25.5-27.4 x 13.6-14.4 mu m) ascospores, wider paraphyses and smaller excipular hairs. Molecular phylogenetic analysis using nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences from the ITS region also supported this taxon as a distinct species.
