Abstract

Prorops Waterston 1923 can be easily distinguished from the other genera of Sclerodermini (Bethylidae: Epyrinae) mainly by having frontal process of head well-developed; antenna twelve segmented; median, basal, and anal veins absent (Evans 1978; Terayama 2006). The genus is a small group with four species known around the world: P. nasuta Waterston, 1923 (cosmopolitan), P. petila Evans, 1977 (Nearctic, Neotropical), P. obsoleta Evans, 1977 (Neotropical), P. rakan Terayama, 2006 (Palaearctic). As an ectoparasitoid on coleopteran insects, P. nasuta Waterston have been studied as the natural enemy on the coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) (Hargreaves 1926; Infante et al. 2005; Chiu-Alvarado et al. 2009; Vega et al. 2009). Herein, we describe a new species of Prorops Waterston which is collected by the Malaise trap in the rain forest of Central Cardamom, Cambodia.
