TRITERPENOIDS WITH CYTOTOXICITY FROM Abelia engleriana

Abelia engleriana(Graebn.)Rehder is a plant used as a food ingredient and belongs to the Abelia genus of the Caprifoliaceae family(1,2).Jellies made from its leaves are famous snacks in Shaanxi Province,and the plant has extremely promising resources(3,4).However,research on these resources are few and often focused on pectin.Moreover,the chemical constituents and bioactivity of A,engleriana have not been reported.In this study,the chemical constituents of A,engleriana were isolated and purified,and their cytotoxicity was evaluated.Seventeen triterpenoids were obtained and identified.They were abruslactone A(1)(5),eupatoric acid(2)(6),3β-hydroxylup-9(11),12-dien-8-oic acid(3)(7),3β-hydroxy-urs-12-en-29p-oic acid(4)(8),3p-hydroxylup-12-en-28-oic acid(5)(9),methyl ursolate(6)(10),27-hydroxy-α-amyranol(7)(11),lanostan-3β-ol(8)(12),oleanolic acid(9)(13),3-hydroxy-11-ursene(10)(14),uvaol(11)(15),ursolic acid(12)(14),siaresinolic acid(13)(16),pomolic acid(14)(17),a-amyrin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(15)(18),2a,3a-dihydroxy-urs-12-ene-28-ioc acid(16)(19),and 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-a-L-arabinopyranosylhederagenin(17)(20).
