In our search for antimicrobial agents from Cameroonian flora, we isolated compounds from Plectranthus alpinus (Vatke) Ryding. This plant is a member of the genus Plectranthus, which is widely used in traditional medicine [1 ]. Species of the Plectranthus genus are used in traditional medicine for the treatment of various conditions ranging from coughs, wounds, gastrointestinal disorders, skin infections, and for pain [1, 2]. The genus is one of 25 genera in the Nepetoideae subfamily of the Lamiaceae family. The Plectranthus is an "old world" genus belonging to the Mint/Sage family and contains approximately 300 species found in tropical Africa, Asia, India, Madagascar, Australia, and a few Pacific Islands [1, 3, 4]. P. alpinus is listed as a synonym of Coleus alpinus Vatke in Plants of the World Online, a database that is maintained by the Kew [5]. С alpinus is recorded to have seven other synonyms: С asswgensBaker, С gracilentusS. Moore, C. lebruniiRobyns, C. microtrichus Chiov., C. schoensis Gurke, С wittei Robyns, and Plectranthus assurgens (Baker) J. K. Morton.
