Abstract
Significant early investigations onboronising with solid boron-yielding substances aresummarised. Using amorphous boron for boronising isvery expensive. Though use of boron carbide and Ekabor1 gives very good quality boride layer, the cost ofthese compounds is prohibitively high. The presentexperience shows that engineering components can besuccessfully boronised with ferroboron which ischeaper material provided this material is available with consistant purity
